They're those corners of the world that you just can't get out of your mind. Places so special, or just plain weird, that they take on their own personalities. National Geographic scoured the United States to include just such places in its ZipUSA series.
This month visit Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where immigrants from Africa's Cape Verde Islands soothe homesickness with music. Other zips in the works range from Nalcrest, Florida, a community built for retired letter carriers, to Point Roberts, Washington, the five-square-mile (thirteen-square-kilometer) tip of an otherwise Canadian peninsula.
