The annual three-day moussem, or festival, near Imilchil is now mostly about commerce, but it grew out of a tradition of Berber newlyweds coming here once a year to be blessed by a saint. Moroccan moussems are commonly located outside towns on neutral ground, such as religious sites, where, in the past, feuding factions could put aside their conflicts and trade in peace.
