The lights of Pat's City Bar welcome all comers to Mosquero, New Mexico, the county seat of Harding County. The population of this 2,100-square-mile (5,400-square-kilometer) county has dropped from a high of around 4,500 in the late 1920s to around 750 residents today, making it one of the least densely populated counties in the contiguous United States. The century-old bar has seen it all, says owner Pat Trujillo. "It's got a bullet hole in it from some outlaw who shot the bartender."

Lighting Techniques: Time exposure with available light
Special Equipment or Comments: I set up on a tripod on main street with the 28mm PC Nikkor. This lens is used to keep perspective straight by shifting the lens up instead of tilting the camera up. I then just used a long enough exposure (about eight seconds) to capture the balance of the fading twilight and the street lights as they grew brighter. |
