Wind in their sails, incoming freshmen at nearby Bowdoin College tack across Montsweag Brook in a Chewonki Foundation "pulling boat." "When the wind dies, you have to pull it with oars," says Chewonki President Don Hudson. "It's a purely sail-and-muscle-powered boat." These students chose a five-day Chewonki sailing and camping expedition rather than a more traditional freshman orientation. "They're from other parts of the country, so it puts them in the same boat, so to speak," says Hudson. "They've got to work together."
