Thousands of children in Johannesburg live on the streets, sheltered only by blankets or sheets of plastic. Many are orphans who have lost their parents to AIDS. Some are children of families that migrated to Johannesburg from elsewhere in Africa and have yet to find homes. Others ran away from broken or impoverished homes and were drawn into lives of drug and alcohol abuse, prostitution, and crime.
