A Myth in Stone
Photograph by Sarah Leen
As the Stikine River curves and recurves between Telegraph Creek and Glenora, three large rocks jut from the water. In a Tahltan Indian story they are two brothers and a sister born to a woman and a dog. Holding hands, they began to cross the river. Their mother ordered the two oldest to let go of the youngest, a boy. They did so, and then let go of each other. Instantly the children were turned to stone, the smallest child being the smallest stone.
