Out Back of Beyond
Photograph by Sarah Leen
A wrangler and guide leads a mount over some rough country dusted by late summer snow. Horseback trips and fly fishing are favorite pastimes based at the Collingwoods' guest lodge in Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Park. Others include hunting and winter skiing. Access is by commercial air to Smithers, British Columbia, and then by floatplane. For traveling overland, the same four-foot drive is used as was used in the late 1800s when guided hunting parties came into the country: horses.
