Cymbals punctuate a special prayer chanted during a Saga Dawa ceremony. In honor of the event Hanle's monks donned elaborate hats last worn at the monastery 15 years before. People living in the surrounding valley brought offerings of yak butter and rice. By praying, the monks are believed to help both themselves and the members of the wider community draw closer to enlightenment.
