A crewman surveys the scene as a chopper swings over a rig drawing from a huge natural gas field off Qatar's coast in the Persian Gulf. Though Russia has more reserves, Qatar claims the world's largest single deposit of "non-associated" gas (deposits not connected with an oil field) and ships huge quantities of liquefied natural gas to other countries, especially Japan.
