The Blob Photograph by Carsten Peter
Like a monster from a B movie, a geyser of molten rock boils from an active spatter cone. "The lava is fragmented by gas in the same way a soda will foam when the can is opened after being violently shaken," says geologist Barry Dawson, the first to study the mountain's lava. The blob will vanish after the gas fizzles out or the lava hardens. |
