Giraffes roaming near the foot of Mount Fuji? Zebras, bongos, and lions too? They’re among the marquee attractions at Fuji Safari Park, which was built by a Japanese industrialist who had gone on safari near Mount Kilimanjaro and returned to Japan enthralled by Africa’s wildlife. While his ersatz safari is oceans away from the real thing, it provides photo ops you won’t get on the plains of Africa: Not far from the giraffes prowl an American black bear and a Siberian tiger. |
