Taliban fighters who had just surrendered at the Kunduz front line are taken in a loosely guarded convoy to a minimum-security prison in a nearby village. When asked why these prisoners were still carrying loaded weapons, a Northern Alliance commander replied: It is no problem. They are defeated, and their spirit is broken. Shortly after this picture was taken, some Taliban prisoners staged an uprising at Mazar-e-Sharif, a one-day battle that left hundreds dead.
