Standing tall at the center of Akhenaten’s once flourishing capital city, now known as Amarna, a replica column has been erected where a temple colonnade once stood. The Small Aten Temple—a wall from its southern edge visible in the foreground—was testament to the adoption of single-god worship by an Egyptian king. An armed guard walks the grounds to protect the site.
