A dramatic reminder of the lava flows that formed the basalt cliffs of the Columbia River Gorge millions of years ago, Multnomah Falls plummets 620 feet (190 meters), making it the second highest year-round waterfall in the United States. With more than two million visitors a year, the cataract is one of the most popular tourist sites in Oregon and in the entire national forest system.
