A Sea of Dunes

An active dune field leaves a scribble of dark forms on the floor of an impact crater in western Arabia Terra. The crescent shapes of the dunes indicate that the wind has been herding them from the upper right of the image toward the lower left. The smaller, lighter-colored dunes may represent older formations cemented in place. Or the bright dunes could contain larger grains than the darker dunes, which makes it harder for the wind to transport them.
