Just beyond the mist Mount Fitz Roy rises to 11,070 feet [3,374 meters] at the border between Argentina and Chile. The almost perpetual cover of clouds inspired the regions original Tehuelche people to call the peak Chaltén, or mountain that smokes. Running along the entire west coast of the continent, the Andes shape the geography of seven countries.
