After more than 3,000 years the skeleton of a Canaanite is unearthed in grid 50. The first people believed to have used an alphabet, Canaanites made Ashkelon one of the largest and richest seaports in the Mediterranean during their reign, which ended when Philistines stormed in from the Aegean around 1175 B.C.
